Weekly Tarot Forecast: 9 January 2017

Welcome to your weekly Tarot forecast! This is the Osho Zen Tarot deck, illustrated by Ma Deva Padma. I was recently intrigued by this deck and asked for it for Christmas. My daughter-santa obliged (Thanks!).  Although Osho himself (Shree Rashneesh) had a somewhat controversial life on the planet, I still find the Zen Buddhist perspective of this deck to be wonderfully transformative.

Let’s do a chronological look first, and then we’ll use some mirror pairs to round out the message.

The Timeline View

Starting the week with a focus on the little joys and gifts of daily life, followed by some questions about holding too tight and then reaching out to connect; then we’re called to take a chance on a new journey, which rounds out the circle by focusing on the journey itself and not the destination. Take a walk in the rain or snow today and breath in the sharp air, or if in the southern hemisphere, the heat-drenched air of the summer sun (Eight of Rainbows—Earth). Keep an eye out for situations in which fear may cause you to hold on too tight to stuff, particularly material stuff (Four of Rainbows). First of the year is always a good time to purge rather than collect; Osho says over-acquisition can be an uglifying habit.

By midweek, an opportunity may appear to reach out and work or play with someone else in a loving/supportive environment (Two of Water).

As you move on toward week’s end, you have a chance to take that good feeling from the Friendliness card and use it to give you the confidence to take a risk on something new (The Fool) that may turn into a new journey (Eight of Fire). Considering the material focus of the earlier part of the week, it could mean some sort of physical travel, or at least taking off artistically or socially in a new direction, focused on the joys of the journey itself rather than the destination.

The Mirrored Tarot Pairs

Now let’s pair the outer cards up to see how they might inform your situation. Wow, both are Eights, but in different elements/suits, Rainbows (connecting Earth and Sky) and Fire (masculine go energy). I have this cool sense of the week basically going in a circle, from a recognition of the benefits of movement and appreciation daily to inspiration to move into something new for yourself.

The second pair, the Four of Rainbows and The Fool create an interesting tension and an opportunity to choose between fear and closing in versus trust and opening up, even if it seems a bit risky.

In the end/center, your actions to integrate the first pair and resolve the tension in the second pair will affect your chances of finding a good partner (Two of Water) to go on that trip.

Over at the TABI Tarot blog, a prompt to think about what constitutes a general year card for 2017, using more than one numerology and association-with-Tarot approach. Go see how this works for you here.

I always like Bonnie Cehovet’s reviews, but this one provides me the opportunity to also pass on high praise for The Cartomancer. This magazine is a great resource for Tarotists with substantive articles and beautiful images. You can read Bonnie’s take on the latest issue here.
